Overview

Flandre Scarlet is the vampire younger sister of Remilia Scarlet and the Extra Stage boss of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Titled the Sister of the Devil, she resides in the Scarlet Devil Mansion and possesses the official ability to destroy absolutely anything. She debuted as a boss in the Extra Stage of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and later became a playable character in Sunken Fossil World.

Flandre is a vampire approximately 495 years old. She was originally from the Outside World before coming to Gensokyo and now lives at the Scarlet Devil Mansion. As the younger sister of Remilia Scarlet, she holds a unique position within the mansion's hierarchy, though her destructive nature and emotional instability have historically restricted her movements.

She is characterized as the problem child of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, yet she remains popular with younger fans. While she idolizes her older sister, her destructive power when unconstrained far exceeds Remilia's capabilities.

Official Abilities

Flandre's official ability is destroying absolutely anything. This power functions by identifying and crushing the "eye" of an object, defined as the point of maximum tension. Flandre can move the "eye" of any target into the center of her hand and crush it, unconditionally destroying the object with a squeeze. This process does not require physical contact with the target.

Documented instances of this ability include: * Destroying a meteor without touching it, described by Flandre as squeezing until it went "boom." * Breaking a door lock simply by holding the handle, without causing a visible explosion. * Destroying Yuuma Toutetsu's true body, the "Mind" of the youkai, in Sunken Fossil World.

Flandre also possesses standard vampire capabilities. She has oni-level physical strength, tengu-like nimbleness, bodily regeneration, and the ability to transform into a bat. Notably, her bat form features normal wings rather than her signature crystal appendages.

Flandre is described as normally docile and pleasant, but she becomes a loose cannon if left unwatched. Embodiment of Scarlet Devil characterizes her as strange and eccentric, making her difficult for others to understand. In Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red, it is noted that she is not very good at talking to other people, though she can be sassy when interacting with her sister. Her friendship toward humans is rated as very low.

Until meeting Reimu or Marisa in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Flandre claimed to have never seen a human except when they were prepared for a meal. She has only ever eaten food served to her, specifically meals prepared by Sakuya Izayoi to look like cake and tea. Because of this, she does not know what she eats was once a living human and cannot restrain herself against living targets; she tends to blow humans away without a trace.

In Foul Detective Satori, Flandre displays an impolite and informal attitude, acting on whims without considering consequences, though she stops short of serious injury. In Sunken Fossil World, she voluntarily leaves the mansion for an extended period to fight Yuuma Toutetsu, marking her first major departure since her introduction. Flandre wields an oversized crooked sword known as Laevateinn. The weapon is described as resembling a clock needle. The name derives from her spell card Taboo "Lævateinn" and shares its name with the sword of Loki from Norse mythology.

Her most distinctive feature is her pair of seven-colored crystal wings. These wings have an irregular shape unlike those of any living creature, youkai, ghost, or typical vampire. The wings are considered unsuited for flight, a fact noted by Reimu Hakurei. The crystals are arranged with colors including light blue, blue, purple, pink, orange, yellow, light green, and light blue.

Flandre has pale golden hair tied in a side ponytail and deep red eyes. Her attire typically includes a short-sleeved top, a miniskirt, and a yellow ribbon decoration on her chest, using deep red as a base color.
